State and Regional Migration has been one of the most popular Migration choices from many Migration seekers and ex-pats in Australia. The number of invitations and permanent residency issued through the State and Regional Migration Stream has increased massively over the last couple of years. 

During COVID times, plans have been tweaked a bit for different State and Regional sponsor Visas.

While some states announced a critical occupation list, others opened up the State Nomination period for an Interim Period.

Following is the current status of State and Regional Sponsor, 

Victoria

Victorian Government has confirmed that they will continue to use the interim allocation places beyond 5 October and will continue to nominate skilled and business migrants for now.​

  • This period is for the ones who submitted their ROI only

  • Priority will be given to applicants from the Health sector

NSW (New South Wales)

Invitation rounds will commence shortly for subclass 190 visa nomination

For the time being applicants from Health, ICT, and Engineering sectors will be considered.

Applicants living in NSW will be considered

ACT (Australian Capital Territory)

Canberra

  • ACT has been the most active state in terms of state nomination with 2 invitation rounds each month

  • ACT has it's on Matrix (Points system)

  • ACT announced a critical occupation list

  • Several popular occupations got invited on the 6th of October Invitation Round:

    • ICT Business Analyst: 65 Points

    • Registered Nurse: 70 Points

    • Civil Engineering: 70 Points

    • Early Childhood Teachers: 70 Points​

WA (Western Australia)

  • The Western Australian State Nominated Migration Program is currently suspended.

  • WA will not issue invitations to apply for State nomination during the suspension period

NT (Northern Territory)

  • Onshore General Skilled Migration (GSM) nomination applications and all Business Investment and Innovation Program nomination applications will continue to be accepted and assessed,

  • No nominations can be issued until the Northern Territory has been allocated quotas which is likely to be allocated end of November.

QLD (Queensland)

The BSMQ business and skilled program remain suspended until allocation from Government.

Tasmania

  • Interim visa nomination allocations and priorities (August - October 2020) remains in place

  • Allocations are expected to be updated soon. Until this time, for the interim period, all nominations must be justifiable in relation to their likely contribution to Australia’s economic recovery, and follow the following 3 priorities:

  1. High-quality subclass 188 and 132 (Business Innovation and Investment Program) nomination applications.

  2. Applicants are critical to supporting Tasmania’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, including individuals providing critical or specialist medical services, critical skills required to maintain the supply of essential goods and services, or delivering services in sectors critical to Australia’s economic recovery.

  3. Applicants currently in Australia who can demonstrate their capacity to meaningfully contribute to economic recovery.

SA (South Australia)

South Australia – Skilled and Business Migration is currently awaiting confirmation of the final allocation for the 2020-2021 program which is expected to be finalized by late November.

The current Skilled Migration program will remain in effect with invitations continuing to be issued to Expressions of Interest identified with the skills to support South Australia’s economic recovery and public health response

State Nomination and Regional Migration (2019/20)

In the midst of this, the number of Invitation for State and Regional Sponsorship increased compared to that of the last year. 

A Total of 21192 invitations were issued under subclass 190, 489, and 491 in the 2019-2020 financial year.
